He eviscerates Dick Cheney's much publicized explanation of the CIA interrogation tactics.

So, we've got a lot to look forward to over the next week. The un-redacted statements from "high-level members of al Qaeda" will be released on Friday. However, these won't do much sway the opinions of Bush defenders. The 2004 CIA Inspector General report, having been prepared while Bush was still in power, will be more difficult to deflect. We can expect the CIA IG report to be released on June 19. Let's just hope the CIA doesn't get carried away with the black marker.

While Obama's efforts to remain at arm's length from the torture controversy, his previous disclosure of Bush administration Office of Legal Council memos set events in motion that have led to the above mentioned releases. From the NewYorkTimes, June 9, 2009:

Mr. Obama’s decision in April to release legal opinions from the Bush administration on interrogation, which were sought in a lawsuit, has opened the door to the disclosure of other documents...

The NYT article assigned the credit for the upcoming disclosures to the ACLU and their legal efforts to get these documents out in the open. Indeed, more power to them, but don't you think that a savvy politician like Obama would have an...

An honest question-If Obama really is playing a game and wants this all out in the open, why play the game? He's losing voters, not winning them. Seems to me he really doesn't want this all out in the open as it is a huge distraction and might foment more violence. He released where the courts were compelling him and seemed to hope that was the end of it. But dems won't let it be. I'm not married to this argument, but it seems to have some logical potential. What do you think?

I believe he is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't on this subject. And he really has much more pressing demands with the economy and getting jobs going.

We would not become dehumanized animals towards our enemy`s. Even though war itself is inhumane. At least the convention was a kind of line we drew in the sand. A kind of Officers and Gentlemen agreement.

And it took people who never fought in a war to destroy it. Cowards who would crack in two seconds if they knew they could be tortured themselves. For that I believe these cowards should b...

Thanks for your reply. And thanks for continuing to expose this issue. The Sen. Whitehouse statement should be required reading for every American.

I read that Lynndie England says she's in possession of 800 more torture photos from Abu Ghraib, that "are a ticking time-bomb that will rock the White House."(paraphrased)

The article claimed she wanted to sell them to the highest bidder.

Maybe Obama has no choice. He may have to deal with it all, before she sells them.

I don't give Obama a pass. He has kept and protected the Bush administration war criminals at every turn.
