I clipped this from a really compreshensive post on mashable.com that discusses how NPR has been defying the rest of the traditional media industry by steadily growing its audience. After reading it, it seems to me that the key here is that they have a CEO who is embracing the changing media landscape instead resisting/ignoring/denying its impact. It seems like such an obvious approach, but one that so many media companies seem unable or unwilling to take.

NPR’s amazing growth over the past 10 years prompted FastCompany magazine in March to call NPR the “most successful hybrid of old and new media,” and wonder if NPR could be the savior of the news industry.
Somehow I think Clipmarks should have been noted in this article. Seems to me that it's been forging ahead in similar fashion for a few years already, and keeping pace with networking options.

Excellent clip Eric!

I wonder if they could survive without government support?

More people are starting to get it ... Infotainment (FOX, etc) are hopefully on the decline ...

Public radio/TV are great things. Although they may not be economically feasible (i.e. - standing on their own), they provide a valuable service.

Capitalism doesn't provide society with all the answers...

Most of NPR's budget is listener support. It didn't keep them from axing one of my favorite programs ("Day TO Day").
