Question is though, assuming they did act incorrectly then are they ever going to be "held to account" for their actions, or are all those dead civilians just more collateral damage.

That's apparently still to be decided. Some think they could be considered unlawful combatants under international agreements. I doubt though anyone will be held to account. Accountability doesn't seem to be in fashion lately.
