Anthropomorphising the wolf as an evil or bad being just perpetuates the myth that the wolf should be killed. Human hubris. Altho i loved Hermann Hesse and his work, it's unfortunate that he chose the wolf to show the dark side of the human psyche. This Native American fable might be a little more balanced:
Two Wolves
An elder Cherokee Native American was teaching his grandchildren about life
. He said
to them, "A fight is going on inside me...It is a terrible fight, and it is
between
two wolves. One wolf represents fear, anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed,
arrogance,
self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, pride and superiority. The
other
wolf stands for joy, peace, love, hope, ...
