You know, I think the best way to fight global warming alarmism would be to just get the oil companies to donate a grand or so to each global warming alarmist organization. The global warming religion would then dictate that the followers could no longer believe anything those people have to say because of their ties (no matter how small) to the evil oil companies. FYI: http://www.exxonsecrets.org/html/personfactsheet.php?id=4 [Dr. Patrick Michaels is possibly the most prolific and widely-quoted climate change skeptic scientist. He has admitted receiving funding from various fossil fuel industry sources. His latest book, published in September 2004 by the Cato Institute, is titled: Meltdown: The Predictable Distortion of Global Warming by Scientists, Politicians, and the Media./quote] And most global warming alarmists have received money and grants from pro global warming organizations. Your point is useless and just proves you can't debate the actual point so you just find a way to dismiss it. well, honest question here, i hope you don't mind enlightening a naive young fellow here. what do the global warming alarmists stand to gain with their alarmism? Well grants for their research for one. Second there is a large profit being made from everything such as videos to selling carbon credits. Seriously, do you think they do this all for free? There is money, including paychecks, for all that research, and Gore gets paid a lot for flying all over the world in his private jets. And carbon credits are even being sold to the public for things such as making your pets carbon neutral. Global warming alarmism is big business now days. Sure thing, global warming is the best way for climatologists, environmentalists and politicians to get grants, money, awards, respect, etc. Nobody would pay attention to the science that just studies climate with its basic feature to change over time under influence of natural factors. And why not to give a frighten forecast for 100 years forehead? Anyway, by that time it will be forgotten. But there is no true science if forecasts are being given, but no any explanations to past grand events. Who would pay for the explanations? It's not about who is saying what, who pays for what or why they say it. It matters whether the ideas are scientifically sound. No source is unbiased, no source is totally reliable. We have to examine the evidence for ourselves and determine which claim is the most illogical. I have done this. Global warming is real although it has been exaggerated. The world would not immediately end if we didn't address it, however it is beneficial that we do. And don't take my word for it. If you want others to take you seriously, do the research. @dropdedman - it's very simple - money! I don't think there is a whole lot we could do to stop global warming. Most of it is natural and we would actually have to take some kind of drastic steps to alter it. And the cure could end up being worse than the disease. After all, why are people so convinced that global warming is that bad a thing? We are much better off now than we were during the little ice age. Warming means longer growing seasons, and it means viable farming seasons further north. It is the fear of change that is driving the alarmism. Well it did win. Is it any surprise he won? After all, they gave the Dixie Chicks a country music award for an album that didn't get any play on most country music stations and wasn't purchased by most country music fans. So why not give the documentary award to a film that isn't a documentary? Well it did win.Almost brought tears to my eyes... oops, no, I guess that was my wife peeling an onion... what it actually did bring was two fingers into my throat... what do the global warming alarmists stand to gain with their alarmism? It is the fear of change that is driving the alarmism. While some people are sitting comfortably enjoying the warm weather and such, somewhere in the world, say for example the Maldives where the highest ground level above the sea is 6m, people are seeing their land disapear slowly under the sea due to melting of the polar ice caps. The reason behind the refu... my point being that forget about larger implications like global warming- environmental damage is a very real and a very serious problem even at a purely micro level. while "global warming" as a central issue might well be alarmist and exaggerated, it is certainly pointing to an examination of environmental costs, and nobody can afford to ignore these. if global warming "alarmism" is used to undermine (it is unfortunate that the "alarmists" are adding fuel to this fire) the threat of environmental degeneration, i see that as being a problem. 000dnj said:yes, dnj, you're completely right about that. "Well grants for their research for one" Really, n2sooners? And to what end? Who are these evil people who stand to gain from funding "false science?' What is their direct benefit? Please be concrete, as in the benefit for Exxon is that everyone continues using fossil fuels. Excellent argument, n2! Heres some food for thought. How big is the fossil fuel industry? Just last month, Exxon posted the LARGEST EVER annual profit for any American company in history. That's not even including such MASSIVE giants such as Royal Dutch Shell, BP, etc. They fund "scientists" to debunk global warming. And they come up with a handful. So what you're saying is, the producers of wind and solar energy are SO OMNIPOTENT, that they can fund enough scientists to come up with "fake" conclusions, that almost every scientists who has even been published in one of the leading journals comes to the same conclusion...that global warming is real and man made. They are SO POWERFUL, that t... White well, off white.. some splotches from repeated banging of the head... Well, I heard that the Goracle has responded to questions about his high electric bills. He said they are higher because his house uses green energy and that they are undergoing renovations to his house right now that include installing solar panels to his home. Of course, I have to wonder about that. You see, they offer green energy where I live. Specifically, wind energy. I am signed up to be switched to wind energy right now, but there is a waiting list. Now, one could conclude that there are lots and lots of people around here so worried about the environment that they are paying more for that green energy, but that isn't the case. The truth is the wind energy is cheaper. Not by much, t... lol@CatWhisperer "Well grants for their research for one. " Just out of curiosity, can you actually name one outfit which is funding global warming researchers? The thing is, scientists who believe in anthropogenic climate change donate money to organizations that publicize anthropogenic climate change; scientists who deny anthropogenic climate change receive money from organizations that deny anthropogenic climate change. That's kind of an important distinction. So, you think the pro-global warming scientists are paying themselves? Isn't that like a perpetual energy machine? You aren't the brightest bulb in the fixture, are you? Sooners, it's amazing you still talk. Do not interpret anyone's lack of a response as surrender to your arguments. We simply have lives. @000dnj - oops, I guess we better not ship that white flag we ordered for you. Amazing you still respond... considering you have a life and all... @000dnj - oops, I guess we better not ship that white flag we ordered for you.
