Personally I think that the main problem lies in internal human distribution of brain power, viz. id and ego. We are what we have become. Maybe we could have become something else, something more emphatic. Maybe we still can. And then we won't need all this rather primitive technology. But why was it that evolution toned empathy down in the first place? Maybe because too much contact is unbearable - or maybe distributed computing was more effective ... each to his own ...
