liotropi says: I have changed the title because obviously some people are not reading the clip & making wrong assumptions. and the lists goes on and on... Have you an issue with fat people ? Very Sad. I think it's obvious from my clips that I have a problem with people discriminating against other people because of their weight - race or whatever other stupid reason. I believe that ALL people should be respected and have equal rights regardless of their race, sex, weight, height, looks, age, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, social or economic status, abilities, intelligence, and the list goes on and on... It has often been stated that - "The last socially acceptable prejudice is against fat people". That's what bugs me about fatism - fat phobia - weightism - sizeism. It is SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE and it's WRONG. I hear you and agree. Death to the Lollipops Now Very good clip and I totally agree with you liotropi. There's another group.....thin people. My daughter and I have received extraordinary abuse. She's been called "anorexic" to the point where people have accused us of starving her! I've convinced her they are just jealous and not to take it personally. Um... dorine? Convincing her that they are jealous is reinforcing the negativity heaped upon fat people. While you are certainly correct to support and encourage her there must be a better way than that. I agree with BartendingBear, dorine. There must be some other way to help your daughter without making it harder for others. I also believe that some people may actually be jealous of her thinness & and are just plain mean. That's why I said regardless of weight - whether it's above some stupid, arbitrary number or below. Thanks, invictus. Any suggestions? You have no idea how hurtful this has been for us. Yes, most have been just plain mean. You know how kids are, but adults? It's incredible. I've never commented to someone about their appearance. I was raised to be considerate of others. And that's how I've raised her. She's always been sensitive to people's feelings, so maybe that has helped her be empathetic. She has no prejudice towards fat people, so telling her they are jealous has not reinforced negativity. Actually, we have to accept the fact that a lot of people are just plain rude. Actually, we have to accept the fact that a lot of people are just plain rude.A lot of? I prefer to say "most of", Dorine. Alas. I believe many of us (here, us=CM community) were raised as you described above: considerate, polite, caring for others. Then we took our first lessons in elementary school, when we faced the "real world" created by the majority and the children they raised. Rudeness, bullying etc. - the classical story. The world could be a much better place... if only the majority of human beings were as half considerate and thoughtful as CM community. I agree, vic. I was trying to be nice when I said "a lot of", tho, I was thinking "most of". I think it's funny that this clip was entitled "The last socially acceptable prejudice" and the clip was tagged "fatism" and yet most of the comments were about someone who has been teased for the opposite reason. That figures. Skinny people taking the spotlight again!! |
