It would be a benefit to All of society to have some bottom line care for everyone...it takes a lot of stress, fear and crime out of society when people don't have to have fear about heatlh, homelessness or starvation.

We're a pretty dog-eat-dog society, the biggest supplier of weapons to the world, now in non-stop war always going on for generations and this is for the profit of oil corporations and war profiteers, not the people.

But there are real problems in how to pay for this, a tendency of some people to get lazy and want to live off the state, a tendency of some people to be like sharks and steal whatever they can from all such programs, a tendency of government run businesses or monopolies being no way as efficient or creative as private enterprise.

President Obama has certainly 'thrown down the gauntlet,' on this and so many other real issues like that that effect our real lives and has done his best to present the problems to the public and to the experts and bring together all those involved to deal with and hopefully improve the situation.
