"'Our life is what our thoughts make it." I think it's ... Our life is what our actions make it. "Poverty is the mother of crime." Agreed it might or can be, but also ... Poverty is the mother of depression. Great clip. I love the Greeks and Romans. They had a lot of time to put into their philosophy. "Poverty is the mother of crime." And inflation (Fiat money) is the mother of poverty. "And inflation (Fiat money) is the mother of poverty." And the Federal Reserve Act is the mother of inflation. "The object in life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane." This is one reason I vehemently opposed the Bush desert oil war. Meditations is an inspiring book. When I discovered that Marcus Aurelius didn't believe in an afterlife, I was shocked that I never learned of this stoic philosophical movement in school or in public venues of history. You may be surprised to know that stoicism is an important strand of the history of christian theology. And further surprised to know that Judaeism, the root of Christianity, dos not stress an afterlife nor do many orthodox Jews believe in one. Buddhism, of course, at the core of its belief specifically denies an afterlife and the existence of an immortal soul (anatta), and reincarnation is something very different. |
