HoneySweetie says: A vulture seems to stalk a starving child in the southern Sudanese hamlet of Ayod, March 1993. This picture would win Kevin Carter the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography. Photo by Kevin Carter/Corbis Sygma. As the photographer chose to take a picture instead of caring for the kid's life, he suffered great pressure from public criticism and ended his life by suicide. Geez i wont pop this, dont want to make ppl see this >> EDIT : Great i pressed the pop button instead of post comment - im so smart When will the U.N. do something for Africa? What are they doing with all of the money the US pays them? I popped this cause you have to remember. Even if you don't want to. Every Country who profited from Africa (That is to say every big imperialist country, like England and the US) should pay. US pays the UN for redemption, redemption for all the deaths that the biologycal weapons you test in Africa have caused. If countries like the US invested in Africa in the same ammount of money they invest in wars hunger in the world would be ended, but then.. you elected Bush so I don't think that's gonna happen any time soon... I have nothing to add about the photograph other than the obvious sentiment of sadness. But I'd like to address some comments up there... 1) The US DOES not pay the UN anything other than it's "membership dues" and as far I know, it is one of the biggest defaulters with its dues running into millions. 2) Electing Bush has nothing specific to do with the starvation problem. Starvation existed even before he was elected to the Presidency. Can we stop blaming everything that happens in the world on Bush? I am not his fan but really, this is just a logical derivation. Devestating, ought to be hung outside of all the shopping malls as we indulge ourselves this Christmas This has got to be one of the saddest images I have ever seen in my entire life. The fate of the photographer didn't make it any better. He must obviously have had a conscience anyway. What a shame this sort of suffering is still present and abundant in our world. It's so disheartening. Very sad indeed, when we have the means to do something about it. I guess it's in will the world is lacking. Extremely saddening photo. Have just a little cash to spare? Send it to a charity and help change this situation. Let that be your christmas present to those who aren't as fortunate as ourselves. My sister-in-law has had this picture on her refrigerator for over 9 yrs to remind her of her prosperity and to support her church's ministry in Africa. As a matter of fact, there is a whole lot of humanitarian aid from Churches and the US going yearly to Africa. The problems are vast, the corruption unbelievable and the main organization that had the most potential for helping there, has robbed and raped the people and consorted with the dregs of humanity to continue the suffering of these poor people. |
