Yep,
but Switzer Space Telescope, SOHO, and even land based adaptive optics
have become (welcomed) competition. When they finally decide to retire it, they
should enter it's destructive re-entry where it could be viewed (and
recorded for the rest) as a celebratory tribute. Like maybe over Cape
Canaveral?

On second thought, they're prolly not eager to celebrate a fiery demise after Columbia. Nevermind.

They should hook some ion drives to it with a few electronic package and communication package upgrades and send it to Mars or Verticle to the plane of the solar system. Just for a different 'look'.
