There is no doubt in my mind that this whole Katie-Tom thing was scripted from the start. He gets to be considered straight and becomes a father...she gets more fame and fortune than she ever would have gotten otherwise.

Now, they can play out the script and blame Tom's commitment to Scientology on their break up (though there will likely be a separation followed by another try before the ultimate sad decision to part ways amicably). I guarantee it!
