Good for her. I never liked her anyway... Just another reason to dislike her, huh? 'Fraid so. I am very tolerant of pretty much everything, but that doesn't mean I'm afraid to call some things just plain wrong. And to be honest, I don't see that as a contradiction. U go girl! By wrong do you mean unnatural jstates1? If so, is that because gay sex cannot result in procreation? Or is it just disgusting or offensive to you? Or do you believe God calls it an abomination? Or do you believe it is a mental disorder? I'm just asking. Not really offensive to me but on the other hand its kinda gross. Well, society feeds us large doses of heterosexuality Aculton. And of course you are entitled to your personal preferences, but being gay should no longer involve difficulty and discrimination. If you think it's wrong, jstates1, don't do it. The only people you have the right to make value judgements for, besides yourself, are those who ask you to make their decisions for them. Aculton, if you like eating sushi, I think that is gross. I think sushi is gross too. Nobody's listened to her for years. She's trying to get attention and build readership. Not that there's anything wrong with that! Hey, so am I. For example, I think people should be able to marry their pets -- why not? If they fall in love with each other, who are we to judge? In addition, I think people HAVE to pay attention to this, and human-pet marriages should be featured in prime-time TV, when families are watching. If you don't accept it, you're a tyrant like Bush or Gore. OH OF COURSE CLIPPERIFIC, Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract. If you think it's wrong, jstates1, don't do it. The only people you have the right to make value judgements for, besides yourself, are those who ask you to make their decisions for them. Quite right. And I am a very tolerant person. I have never sought to shove my perspective down someone's throat. But I do have a right to express my perspective. I don't really expect non-Christians to follow the code of ethics I am called to, but that doesn't mean I will condone immoral behavior. @ debbyski: Yes, I am against homosexuality because it is an unnatural use of sex. I am also against it because God says it is wrong. But I am also against it (and I am also against sex outside of marriage... Well Jstates1, If one starts with the premise that the only legitimate sex act is between a married man and woman, for the purpose of procreation, then so contraception, oral sex, anal sex and masturbation is also wrong in addition to homosexuality. I must admit, that one can find plenty of ammunition against homosexuality in the Bible. But a careful examination of scripture makes the biblical case against homosexuality hard to prove. As a result, many of the passages taken today as condemning homosexuality in general are in fact speaking of acts that are always repugnant such as ritual sex in temples, prostitution, group orgies, rape, and child abuse. As far as people practicing "crotch ... Lynn Lavner said, "“The Bible contains 6 admonishments to homosexuals and 362 admonishments to heterosexuals. That doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals. It's just that they need more supervision.” debbyski, Lavner's frivolous quote is not that far off the mark. The number of passages which can be fairly reliably interpreted as referring specifically to relations between men are far fewer than those that refer specifically to men and women. Lesbian relationships appear to be absent. According to the New Testament, castration and celibacy seem to be the desired courses of action. In Matthew 19, we find the passage, "But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, ... You know what JoJor? I'm amazed that this little clip about Dear Abby having the gall to say that gays and lesbians are God's children too would bring these sort of "moral" responses from others, or even statements such as homosexuality is "gross". Not only that, far from hiding in the closet, the way homosexuals were once forced to do (and some still are), gays and lesbians today are proud of who they are and expect to enjoy the same rights as straight Americans--including the right to get married. Imagine the nerve! Imagine the nerve! You're right, these people are not short on guts. They are so adamant about their agenda, however, that one wonders if they are trying to assuage their guilt. You are not going to stop people from making love.True, just like we cannot stop them from drinking, doing drugs, killing each other, and all manner of wickedness. Making love is wicked?? OMG, I'm sooooooooooo wicked with hubby Sigh. jstates1's statements are true to someone who probably knows no one who is gayNot true. I have had several gay coworkers over the last few years; one of them was even a friend for a while. I have always treated gays with respect. But what they are doing is wrong. I also have had friends who smoke, friends who drink, and worse. I don't hate them, but I wish they wouldn't do such things. or has a son or daughter who's gay. That's true. I don't have any kids of any kind. If I do have child ren who decided to embrace the gay lifestyle, I will still love them. That doesn't mean I'd condone what they're doing. There's an overused cliche I could use here... but I won't. @Alanocu; is the ReverendMark gay? Good for him! And don't let the comments of others stigmatize because lesbian and gay persons do not fit the narrow homophobic definition of "normal" humanity and because they do not hear the pain of the oppressed and rejected homosexual community. Gay people have a lot to be proud about. In almost every field of human endeavor, openly gay men and women are, and have been among the highest achievers. It would probably be a waste of my time, since you'll keep believing what you want, what's most comfortable for you, what the church wants you to think...AMEN. Any bible verse you wanna throw down in their defense, I'd be happy to give you the correct interpretation.Rom 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Rom 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, Rom 1:23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Rom 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Rom 1:25 Who changed the ... What is it that gays are doing wrong? I could say that what heterosexuals are doing wrong. Would you know what I'm talking about? This brings up an interesting question. What is "wrong?" How does someone determine what is "right" and what is "wrong?" If we use these terms in the sense of morality, where does "morality" come from? Do you believe there is no such thing as "right" or "wrong?" How do you define what is "right" or "wrong" for your own life, for the life of your children? Is there such a thing as morality? Is morality bad? Is it necessary? Popped for the comment thread. Do yourself a favor and try to understand those verses taken in historical context as well as try to understand the appropriate translation of some of them jstates. Anyway good for you Alanocu! I grew up in a very small town and saw first hand the intolerance experienced by our 4 gay people who were "out". And at the age of 16 I had an inter-racial romance that absolutely horrified my poor parents. You know, it's funny, everytime a certain clipper alludes to the fact of my strange love of gays I remember being called a n-lover. It's the same sort of prejudice. Keep surrounding yourself with those who support and love you Alanocu Is morality bad? Is it necessary? Is it necessary? Necessary for what? Necessary in order to have a society, yes. Necessary for survival, no. It is also required by God. I'm not sure if that makes it necessary for anything or not. But then, there are probably a million different ways to define what morality ought to be, too. If we're only talking about a societal expedient, then some things (like homosexuality) which God prohibits could still be socially acceptable. Expediency is a poor way to define morality, though. It reduces our humanity to just a product of evolution or nature or something. This thread is getting interesting; popped for comments. |
