Media Matters has addressed this.
Swift Boat Veterans for Truth co-founder John E. O'Neill, co-author of Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry,
has accused Senator John Kerry (D-MA) of lying about being in Cambodia
during the Vietnam War, claiming that neither Kerry nor any other U.S.
crewman were in Cambodia at that time. Yet a newly released audiotape
of O'Neill meeting with former President Richard Nixon in 1971 reveals
that O'Neill told Nixon that he was in fact in Cambodia on a swift boat
during Vietnam. Either O'Neill lied to the president then, or he is
lying now.

Actually, Kerry claimed Nixon sent him to Cambodia on Christmas day in 1968. He told the story many times telling the audience that it was seared into his memory. The swift boat vets proved that first, Kerry's boat was nowhere near Cambodia on Christmas day in 1968, and they pointed out the fact that should have been obvious to everyone that Nixon wasn't president on Christmas day in 1968. Kerry was caught in a lie that he had told over and over since his days in Vietnam and had to change his story. So nope, they weren't wrong there, Kerry was.

Can you give a source for when and where Kerry claimed he was sent to Cambodia on Christmas in 1968? My understanding is he was patrolling the Vietnamese/Cambodian border and he believes that his boat accidentally strayed over the Cambodian side.

I also believe he does say he was sent into Cambodia a few times in early 1969, and that his journals and logbooks bear him out in that regard.

Boston Herald 1979

I remember spending Christmas Eve of 1968 five miles across the Cambodian border being shot at by our South Vietnamese allies. . . . The absurdity of almost being killed by our own allies in a country in which President Nixon claimed there were no American troops was very real.
Senate floor 1986

I remember Christmas of 1968 sitting on a gunboat in Cambodia. I remember what it was like to be shot at by Vietnamese and Khmer Rouge and Cambodians, and have the president of the United States telling the American people that I was not there; the troops were not in Cambodia. I have that memory which is seared -- seared -- in me.
Nixon wasn't pre...

All of this talk simply reminds me that John Kerry was in Vietnam and W was drunk in Alabama working on a campaign while he was AWOL from the military, Dick Cheney had another deferment because he had more important matters to tend to and Rush Limbaugh was able to avoid the military because he had a boil on his ass.

Who would I want in the firefight next to me? - John Kerry

Kerry was a coward and a traitor. He left his men in Vietnam by getting three scratches and then came back to the US and smeared them by lying to congress. And if I ever went anywhere with Kerry I would want him to lead the way because I wouldn't trust that lying, back stabbing SOB to be behind me.

If Kerry is a coward than Bush, Cheney, and Limbaugh fit some description worse than cowardice. And I don't trust those lying SOB sacks of shit Bush and Cheney.

n2sooners, neither of those quotes address what I was asking, which was for a statement where Kerry claimed he was sent to Cambodia, by Nixon or whoever else, in Christmas of 1968. I do not see him saying he was ordered or asked by any superior to go to Cambodia in Christmas 1968.

As I said, my understanding is that Kerry only claimed his boat accidentally strayed into Cambodia during a patrol in Christmas 1968. Those quotes you gave do not disprove this.

I thought this thread was about the allegedly unfounded "smear" on the smearers, SBVT, rather than arguing about John Kerry.

Above are quoted a litany of falsehoods propagated by the SBVT, contrary to the Clip's assertion that nobody has ever been able to point out a single falsehood.

Deflecting only makes your position weaker, propagandist.
