No question it's a tragic story, like many coming from there. But this isn't about supporting or not supporting Bush... it's about this. I don't agree RS. Bush, et. al, were the architechs that got us into Iraq. It had nothing to do with al Qaeda. As far as the link you provided it seems that this is a law enforcement issue and all our resources should be directed to thwarting threats like this if they prove legitimate. Actually, it was hussein who got us into Iraq, if you want to get technical... or to put it more accurately, it was terrorism, his support of it, and his defiance to the international community when it came to his weapons programs. Regardless, we all should be fully supporting the troops out there, the people on the street & media with their vocal support and people in the government with the financial & military support. 100%!!! Not this bologna that we currently see coming out of Congress. Well, RS, we evidently don't share the same viewpoint. The present occupation of Iraq was being planned in the late 90's by Bremmer, Wolfeweitz, and Cheney. Take a look at the Plan for a New American Century (PNAC). But that is the impetus. We must deal with the situation now. And not everyone agrees that supporting the course the administration is pursuing is supporting the troops even though those are the talking points the administration would like us to believe. The problem is that fewer and fewer people are buying the lies anymore. Disagreeing with the administration is being FOR the troops. But I don't think I'll change your mind. I believe we both support the troops and the charge tha... You right - we don't share the same viewpoint. The reason I don't buy your type of argument is because if was just way too simple for hussein to stop the train. He could've easily stopped it... but stupidly enough (for him) didn't. No question that the current situation in Iraq sucks, and you could kind of argue that it's because of us taking saddam down, the only thing that kept discipline in the country. The problem with current Administration trying to do something positive there is that you have these two forces that hate each other, have been so since before the US was even a country, and now with hussein gone, the man that used to kill hundreds of thousands in the most brutal ways ... as what you clipped in this clipmark. There shouldn't be any politics involved with this. NONE! They should honestly and quickly put together a bill that has NOTHING BUT appropriations for the military and thus show that they support the troops. As this lady said, speaking that you support the troops and beating your chest means nothing, and she's right. Nothing wrong with moral support, but the Senators and Congressmen can and should do better. Telling the troops that the war is lost is NOT how one supports the troops, it only demoralizes them and it certainly gives air and comfort to the enemy. Vietnam was a different situation. RS, while I am in opposition to most of your arguments it's apparent that you are steadfast in your beliefs and I feel there's not much I could say to convince you otherwise. That's the way it is. I would like to thank you for responding in a civil manner. We don't always have to figuratively shout at each other even if we are miles apart in the way we think. At least politically. Perhaps one day there won't be this rift in our nation and we can use our energies in a more positive manner. I hope so.  The bottom line is we're both Americans and it's our fellow citizens who shed their blood and it's our country that's under attack. To me, regardless of political ideology or personal likes or dislikes of politicians in the office - that fact that we're Americans should be above everything else. I care very deeply about this country and I would imagine and hope that you do too. Vietnam was not in the least bit winnable. They had been fighting foreign occupation (Chinese, French, Japanese, French) for centuries and would continue to do so. Their war was for nationalism not communism. Both Nixon and Kissenger knew that but extended the war for political purposes. Getting more GI's killed isn't supporting the troops. There were other ways to defend this country instead of a rash war of choice by Bush & Cheney in Iraq. Iraq detracted from the real mission which was Afghanistan. Face it Bush & Co. have royally screwed up this whole mission and even if we stay the job needs to be put in more capable hands. Hi Bobby! I concur that we should never have shifted our emphasis out of Afghanistan. In my opinion, the whole Iraq fiasco was an ideological scheme thought up by the PNAC group headed by Cheney, Wolfowitz, et. al. Their original plan to impose American hegemony in the region to usher in a "New American Century" was one of the most misguided attempts in my lifetime. And that's not even touching on the topic of Blackwater.  If anybody believes that the US did not do anything incorrect in Iraq after deposing Saddam they should check out the documentary "No End in Sight".
