pyrogyne says: Interesting article Sounds like they've read the DaVinci Code. The Mother Goddess idea has been around for rather longer than Dan Brown, yes? I think one of the reasons the Da Vinci Code has been so popular is because of a resurgence in the desire for a mothering deity figure, as well as a fathering one. Perhaps, or perhaps it was because it was an interesting tale to read... a fictitious, exciting, (somewhat) educational, tale to read. I clipped this some months ago but I think it's so pop-worthy that I'm popping yours too. And Pyrogyne, you may find these articles I clipped in recent months also interesting: * When God Was a Woman Review on Merlin Stone's sensational book * Learning the Language of Goddess A great interview with the legendary archaeologist and linguist Marija Gimbutas. * Matriarchy: History or Reality An interesting article on the foundations and culture of matr... I found it fascinating going through the archaeological sites and museums of Turkey, Egypt and Greece and seeing the ancient mother-goddess figure being supplanted by the father-god. But we still blithly use her symbols: lions and other noble cats, and even triangles. Maybe someday we'll understand God as being both inclusive of and beyond gender. This has been in Hinduism for ever. AdhiShakti - Adhi meaning First and Shakti meaning Power http://www.webonautics.com/mythology/shakti.html |
