Update: Unfortunately the death toll has passed 3000, according to AP and Reuters.

The worst part of it, a 6.2 quake could claim so much lives. Indonesia survived a couple of +7.0 quakes in last one year without any serious damage and/or casualties but this time the picture is dark. As it is often said, "it's not quake what kills people - it's poor conditions and weak buildings." According to latest news from AP, the death toll has already passed 3500.
