Leave it to the brainiacs at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to think about the provisioning of interplanetary fixed based stations. Engineers at MIT, Olivier de Weck and David Simchi-Levi have created a tool called SpaceNet, which models movement of freight between Earth and stations on the moon.

With transit times of up to 9 months on a mission to Mars, supply chain execution in space would be difficult. Perhaps the moon will serve as a staging area for the future!

Now how long until FedEx or DHL start advertising interplanetary Express services? When it absolutely positively has to get there...in 10 months!

Fascinating. I wonder what inter-planetary delivery services Tesla would have created if he were alive today.

Adam, most probably our modern day's orthodox academical bureucracy would accuse Tesla for dealing with "pseudo-science", as they do to many.

True. One thing that would be interesting is in Tesla's day you either went to Morgan, Astor, Westinghouse or a handful of suitors, whereas these days there are thousands of individuals and institutions that could fund work such as his.

You are right, things are very different now than Tesla's time. What I was trying to emphasize was, there may be some geniuses like Tesla around, in our day too, but they may feel themselves so uncomfortable with all those hassles, hatred, accusations, debates etc. in the scientific world (and in mainstream media) that they may prefer not to be under spotlight, thus remaining less vulnerable. Yes many financial supporters could be find but imagine the media headlines: "... Company sponsors the 'freak scientist' for his researches..." or "There is a 'secret order' behind this guy's projects".

Okay, these were just instant thoughts which made me smile. But you're absolutely right, geniuse...
