I like the way synesthesia is reasoned to be associated with the metaphor. That the wiring that we have formatted, was trimmed so that the general overall connections were trimmed to create specific nerve pathways that allowed division of the senses. That the divisions are at least as important as the connections, and that the 'wiring is so fine that the divisions can be do easily left bridged, and that we all have enough of an interconnection to make some form synesthesia seem an essential part of consciousness, and individuality. It has a direct impact to whatever particular degree, on our view of reality.
