It also doesn't mean that people in that situation don't think about others lives (as you assume they don't).

The outburst was hardly neccessary as you were not singled out by name were you? And the picture on my wall is MY daily reminder that things are not so great elsewhere no matter how bad my circumstances may be. It's great that you can volunteer your time and efforts to help others. Most of mine is spent helping kids and my spouse with her daily struggle with M.S.

And my point about the kids (and adults) in Africa is still valid, Iraq just seems to be the country of the current spotlight.

Volunteer at the nearest retirement home and just sit and talk to the elderly, many of whom have no-one to come visit. Offer to wash a homeless person's clothes. Walk the elderly neighbours dog. Go shopping for a handicapped neighbour. It's not about having money, but about having a heart. No time and no money are poor excuses IMO.

One way to help the children of Iraq (free of charge!) is to do what you can to stop the cause of their misery, which is a needless, endless, senseless brutal war.
Any and ALL of us can work at achieving that goal.

I think we who have compassion for all the suffering people, especially the children are very frustrated because there seems --at times--no end and no effective way to end this fuckin' war or the suffering. Just do what you can and keep communicating, try not to take out our frustrations on each other...but come Sept. 15 it will be time to hit the streets of DC and wherever like-minded, caring people take our outrage and lett the murdering bastards and their enablers in Congress that its time to defund this war and impeach Cheney/Bush. Start the proceedings at let the truth be known to everyone.

i feel you all out there. Yesterday, while visiting my Dr., she told me that her assistant had lost his son-in-law recently in Iraq. It hit home (again) and i broke down in tears while she was writing my 'scripts, i just lost it. the sadness and frustration just overwhelmed me about this endless fuckin' war.
Today i carry on and do what i can to fight the bastards. It ain't much, but it's all i have.

There are several hurdles, though.

#1- Apparently the USA president can do whatever he wants.

#2 - a political cliche, is that politicians will lose votes if they oppose an ongoing war.

#3. There is strong oppostion to peace. And the side hat believes in and wants the war is well-funded, pervasive, strongly active every day, and far more ruthless.

#4. People don't see the damage. News is filtered. The murder & destruction is hidden.

#5. People are just trying to get on with their lives. They do live paycheck-to-paycheck. They worry is about paying for the next tank of gas; paying for care repairs; paying for kids going back to school; paying for clothes, etc.

Think of it like if you suddenly got sick or broke a leg. Maybe you were a big activist one day but the next day you're limping around annoyed at your cast itching, so maybe some degree of compassion and understanding is appropriate (although the apparent apathy of so many is indeed annoying and frustrating).

Conclusion: The only solution is the electing of better leaders. Removing leaders we don't like that we can remove. Proposing laws we think are good - directly where and when we can, or with politicians.

Of course, be advised, the opposition that is better funded, more focused and ruthless is also trying to do the same thing.

Politics is not war. But politics is a serious boxing match.
