Seems like an example of what ledoux calls 'quick and dirty' thinking. That's a type of reaction generated by deep structures in the amygdala hippocampus and generally what was known as the limbic system. Higher cortical modulation of these bottom-up signals varies between humans and is at least to some extent dependent upon mental development aka emotional intelligence, equanimity etc. |
