enbar says: Interesting opinion piece from Summer 2005 issue of Orion Magazine. Condemns US foreign policy as "blasphemous" from a Christian perspective. Mahatma Gandhi, not only on the day he said, "I am a Christian, I am a Hindu, I am a Muslim, I am a Jew,"Tolerance used to mean that everyone has a right to their beliefs. Not anymore,,, Now your intolerant if you don't accept someone else's faith as equally acceptable. If I were inclined to invent a religion and a god, the God of the Bible is the very last God I would ever invent. I would invent a god I felt "comfortable" with. Now one that demands of me more than I can deliver. Now religion is a cafateria plan where you pick what you like. You go to lunch, you choose what you like. When choosing medicine, you choose what has been tested and works. And in your opinion, is this a good thing? No, It is not a good thing for me, as a Christian, to accept someone else's belief as equally acceptable. It is also a good thing to accept that other's have the option to not accept my views as equally acceptable to them. However, inventing some feel good notion of reality using Christ as equal to Buddha or Mohammed is insulting. Christians would not do that, by definition. However, inventing some feel good notion of reality using Christ as equal to Buddha or Mohammed is insulting. Christians would not do that, by definition.By whose definition? Yours? By the definition of being "Christian". If one were pluralist, they would not be Christian. i enjoyed your photos on flickr. I have some there as well. Thanks. Presumably you know that there are lots of self-identified Christians who'd disagree with your definition. I take it you're OK with excluding all of them? It's really not a matter of opinion. It is a matter of fact. If some that call themselves Christian are indeed pluralists, they simply aren't Christian in practice, nor by definition. So tell me, who's in charge of keeping track? Where's the official, "factual", never-varying, definition of who's a Christian? who's in charge of keeping track? You and I are. I'm not. Personally, I'd say, speaking as a Christian -- a very bad one, I guess, but still -- God is. "When you meld religion and politics, you destroy both" You are right Enbar! I allowed you the opportunity to answer your own question. good job. I agree 100 % rickdog |
