oh give me a break.

First, the hypocritical cry of "this is wrong" flies in the face of all the support religious supporting stories such as "Left Behind", "Jesus Christ Superstar", "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe", and the ever loving "Passion of the Christ" so spare me the rhetoric. ALL of these stories are written to support religion and demonize opposition. The story they tell is just as fictional and entirely biased to an ideal as Compass is.

Secondly, the story is about destroying a false god. The author finds a parallel between his story and religion that exists today. If anything, it shows the fanaticism of those in power and how they will manipulate, lie to, and take advant...

First I'd like to apolgize for not taking the time to explain my thoughts. I only had a minute to clip.

As for the title of the clip, it is simply asking a question. The content of the clip is a small piece of supporting evidence and I do refer to it as evidence in my remarks. So please, when trying to discredit me, make sure you have your facts straight before saying I took something out of context when that is simply not the case.

The title is based on the fact that the author is on a mission to destroy god in the minds of children. ( i have not found any evidence to say otherwise ) Please tell me if there is evidence to the contrary because I am not one of those simple minded jerks...

If the movie is pissing off secular groups, I'd say there's little reason to worry.

I was raised Catholic, the Catholic Church is part of my essence....I wouldn't be able to do this film if I thought it were at all anti-Catholic.

It was clear right from the start that the makers of this film intended to take out the anti-religious elements of Pullman's book.

very interesting, thx kore! so would the answer to my question be no to the movie but yes to the books?

Also, I just realized I left one very important word out of my title which should have read "...created to secretly stray..."

The small problem that I have with the title is that it singles out christianity. The books themes are anti-religious. Which includes christianity, but is not limited to christianity.
The god/gods are too many to count.

Now that, I can agree with... I am quickly learning more about the details with the biggest one being that it is more about religion than Christianity. I'm not sure where I got that from but it def seems to be incorrect. Personally I am somewhat against organized religion. However, my point remains that if in fact there is a hidden agenda then it is just wrong for them to produce such a movie.

I would change the title but I'd like to leave it so all comments remain valid.

Claim: The 2007 film The Golden Compass is based on a series of books with anti-religious themes.

Status: So?

The turmoil behind this book/trilogy is a bit disconcerting. I've been getting all kinds of "warnings" about this story from friends, family, and strangers (both verbal and email). The frenzy and fanaticism behind its opposition is really frightening. When my wife's father passed away last Christmas we didn't hear from a quarter of the people that suddenly feel the need to warn us now about this movie. For me it puts into perspective the pettiness of people's need for belief and need to validate it.

But just so I wasn't speaking from ignorance I signed the entire series out of the library a couple days ago and am now halfway through the final book. I don't think its a bad read but I've def...
