JICWyllie says: A constructive way to mop up excess carbon dioxide ... "God help us" if we find something like this and it seriously has measurable effects on the environment around us in order to "counteract" man's presumed damage. I am more fearful of THAT damage from altering what is more likely cycles of nature. Save us from some group of ultra-do-gooders with anxious little panties, breathlessly putting into service some compound,or natural reaction or some un-perfected and untested routine or hypotheses. Who will know where things are "supposed" to be? That's if they are NOT there right now. There probably are many good practicle applications for this substance, future trials and tests will determine that, cleaning up certain environmental damage such as chemical and oil spills may be one of them. I doubt that it could be used to alter one of natures cycles, after all so many claim that we are NOT affecting natures cycles with out activities, it cannot be both ways. Maybe we could use it in weapon's of mass destruction.... Awesome potential. Especially if its cheap! "Hugo Boss created a line of winter jackets out of the material but had to withdraw them after complaints that they were too hot." So go with long-sleeved shirts and pants versions. Warmth w/o the usual winter bulk. Great for Aircraft. Something that strong and light is bound to be useful in space. Prefab Orbital Terminals. It can be sealed with a few bucky balls. Maybe have the skin on the inside so its pressed against the aerogel by cabin pressure. Invented in 1931? Makes you wonder where it's been all of this time. I wonder what else is in the Archives. |
