Anti-intellectualism probably occurs across the nation but since I'm writing from a certain perspective it appears to me that areas of the deep south have embraced this stance with a tenacity not seen in other portions of the nation. From my states governor praying for rain on the steps of the state capitol to large groups attempting to "protect" our children from the evil effects of evolution, anti-intellectualism has been elevated to a virture and a point of pride. Having a liberal arts education, having studied the arts and sciences, bears the mark of a waste of time.
