Too bad they don't have laws against abject stupidity.Such ignorance is inexcusable. But such is the nature of religion. And such is the danger of religion.

He was lucky. How many children die because of their parents beliefs?

The problem is compounded because many of these parents engage in these bizarre behaviors and rituals with the knowledge and consent of their peers, thus reinforcing the aberrant behavior. That is the power and the problem with belief in supernaturalism.

Yes religion can kill and emotionally cripple people,a lot of the more bazarr religious leaders pray on the poor and under educated population. God has a special judment for this group. Yes I believe in Jesus and a lot of religions have kicked him out or they misrepresent him.

I notice all the comments are about religion, but at the end of the article, didn't it say someone suffered from schizophrenia and delusions. (if you follow the link after going to the clip to the original arrest article you'll find more info about the son) The article states the son was a straight A student until about a month ago, when he began having episodes. Again, isn't this more about the boy's mental health--repeatedly throughout history mentally ill have been treated as devils or institutionalized.

Well, it's a given that exorcism is directly related to religion. The whole demon thing and all.
but at the end of the article, didn't it say someone suffered from schizophrenia and delusions.
True. So what's your point? The focus of the article was in fact about the parents attempting an exorcism instead of seeking legitimate help for their son. And of course the charges being dropped (for the time being).

You answered your own comment. I'm sure it is a mental illness, but the boondoggle that is religion has taken something quite natural (albeit terrible) and have spun it as something supernatural in order to validate their own beliefs.

It wasn't too long ago that disease and sickness were also attributed to demons (and I'd wager you'll still find some people today believing and claiming that). Religion abides in ignorance and is an agent against rational thought and human understanding.

His mother and anyone else involved should have been charged.
