I need to read the actual bill proposal before we write this off as another terrible thing that Bush may do. How many of the senators have read the bill? The bill expands healthcare help to a fraction of the population that lives within a certain percent of the poverty level that is a little higher than the previous limit. The 25-yr-old child and $80,000 income figures are probably something like the coalition of 36 nations fighting in Iraq that the President talks about - no one else can come up with numbers that high. He opposes SCHIP, he has said, for purely ideological reasons: he doesn't like it done that way. It's a poor excuse for not helping children stay healthy. |
