This clip reminds me of Joseph Heller's Catch 22

Well now that Blair is pulling his men out, this shouldn't be much of a problem for the British troops anymore.

That sucks for the Brits. Glad we aren't having those kind of AWOL problems here.

Don't be so sure about. It's BOTH the US and UK soldiers who have had enough:

More U.S. Soldiers Deserted Than Earlier Reported

Going AWOL vs. Going to Iraq

That was some cute editing of that NYT article. They cut the story off right before this paragraph.

Over all, desertions, a chronic problem in the Army but hardly pervasive, now account for less than 1 percent of active-duty soldiers. The current annual rates pale in comparison with the 33,094 soldiers -- 3.41 percent of the total force -- who deserted the Army in 1971, during the Vietnam War.
Even with the numbers revised upwards, the Army had a lower desertion rate last year than they did in 2000 when Clinton was president. Fact is, the current number of AWOL military personnel is well within the normal fluctuations we have had in the past ever since going to an all volunteer military.

You're right n2. Everybody loves and supports the war. Yay. Support among the public AND the troops has never been higher. Nope. Never. We all feel so proud. ~

Whatever...

You can throw a tantrum if you want. I am simply pointing out the fact that desertion rates are well within the norm no matter what you wish they were.

Using facts isn't allowed here n2s. If you do, they will find another place to spew the rhetoric.

I wish I had read the coments before I popped the article. And that's a fact.

Glacier5, Why would the commentary influence your decision to pop the clip?? IMO, it's a good clip whether one cares for the commentary or not.
