This is a terribly, tricky time in happenings for the future of Iraq and Turkey.

On PBS, the News Hour with Jim Lehrer, they showed a story on this conflict with the PKK. What amazed me most was their one sided view of the effects of the coming invasion of the North in Iraq. What about the economic effect on Turkey?

The reporters only talked to the Iraqi merchants and people. What about the Turkish businesses and people?

If the Turkish government stops commerce from Turkey to Iraq, wouldn't there be a very NEGATIVE effect on the Turkish businesses and people who have benefited from the improved economic relationship with Iraq?

If the Turkish government stops commerce from Turkey to Iraq, wouldn't there be a very NEGATIVE effect on the Turkish businesses and people who have benefited from the improved economic relationship with Iraq?

In another report, there was actually a fairly sound suggestion made, but I wish I could remember the person who suggested it. The main idea was that Coalition troops monitor and patrol a 10 mile (or km?) area on either side of the border of Iraq and Turkey. Find a solution for both parties, before Turkey and Iraq have to pay.

At least the Turkish government wouldn't have to deal with being charged with not appropriately respecting the border with Iraq.
