I (a Christian) understand what Ali Hanif said and why he said that. My sym- and empathy is with him. But: This country is set up for Christians. We Muslims pretty much have to make our own space in America. That seems to be questionable to me; it sounds like a call for an installation or consolidation of a parallel society - which is the bankruptcy of any social integration and, as such, a clash hazard. I (a Christian) understand what Ali Hanif said and why he said that.Me too. Even in a country without laws preventing a particular religious observance, it is hard to be the outsider. I had a dear friend in college from Pakistan who is Muslim. She would come into my dorm room to pray sometimes when her roommate had friends over. I have wondered if she would have felt comfortable doing that today. It appears that even others have to keep a low profile due to the Muslim faith. |
