love your tagging capabilities, deb. Does a campaign like this dissuade hard core drink drivers I wonder; I doubt it, but it may very well lead to others thinking very hard before they drink and drive. I don't know- Some of these clowns would see it as a badge of fame or something. A bar may have free drinks for someone that can get on it twice in one year for example. But you gotta love those "I Just Got Booked" photo's people take. Keep em up for entertainment if nothing else- I doubt it would be an effective detourant. Hall of shame?!! wow .. some invasion, yes, not sure how effective to the task at hand .. yet seems 2me that from now on, drunken drivers should take much better care on their appearance & look !! .. -)) It would work for those who are supposed to set good examples eg teachers, police etc I'm sorry but everyone knows it's against the law to drive drunk so if you choose to be prepared to have that information made public. If you break the law I figure it's fair game! Sweet they have RSS for new posts too! Public information is just that... public. Freedom is the price of freedom. I'd rather be free to drink than have prohibition so I wouldn't have to have this happen to me. I don't think that public dollars should be spent in such a manner, but if donated by the billboard companies... hard to say no no matter how much it pains the violator. There is no reasonable expectation of privacy when you're getting booked. Those pictures, and all the court proceedings that come after are a matter of public record. If we take them off the billboard, then we might as well do away with Megan's Law. And I'm not comfortable giving privacy to criminals, any criminals. People who habitually drink and drive will not be deterred; the punishments already in place don't stop them because when they're getting drunk, consequences are the furthest thing from their minds. This is really no different than putting someone in the stocks in the town square. It won't be a DETERRENT to the drunkards but a burden on the family. I would say an invasion on the privacy of the family. I think this is a great idea. I'm all for any site that can inform the public about criminals. I think it is a great idea as well. Think of all the accidents these ass holes cause. If it puts a burden on the family, well good as it might force him/her to grow up. All very good points- Family doesn't have to be dragged in though- all you gotta do is say, no he just looks like me or he spells his name different or something like no I don't know this guy- But I think this time I'm right- do it so we got something (or one) to laugh at on the way to work- I was once arrested on a traffic charge. The cops thought I was intoxicated even though I had no BAC. It turned out that I was an undiagnosed epileptic and had a seizure behind the wheel. Problem was, I wasn't positively diagnosed until three months after the event. In Arizona, my face could have appeared on one of those billboards before the cause was known. That might have been a good thing - I could haave ssued the state for a fortune. Thanks for putting a different perspective on it Jorjor. Jorjor- I think there has to be a conviction for the pics to go up and without a BAC you would have been convicted on the lesser charge of impared driving or something like that, and that doesn't get you in front of a habitual DUI type, but if you win the suiut, I'll be happy to introduce you to some friends of mine in Reno? let me know- LOL |
