pokkets says: Bees are smarter than we thought. Good to know about it... That's funny I at least twice read 'hood' as the 'hood in ghetto speak! I can't remember the last time I heard the expression of the car hood. Yet it was only when I imagined the bees learning to avoid being hit by speeding cars that the clip interested me. After all I already knew that bees navigate! And then the word 'hood is used only once in the article in the title and is really completely irrelevant to the meaning of the article. I think the title refers to the fact that bees get to learn to know their neighbour'hood' I've seen articles about bees 'dancing' according to the position of the sun, to point out where flowers with nectar are, but I think scientists have had trouble deciding if some of the behaviour is 'hard wired' -inherited, or learned. This experiment gives support to the idea that the behavior is learned. I still don't know if they've discovered if bees learn to dance, or if some of them are born dancers. |
