For the non-religious such questions make for entertaining speculation but not one iota of difference to the humanistically textured reality of life. Allow me to respectfully disagree ab.. Happily and gratefully. This clip presses my buttons. It is undoubted that this universe is absolutely finely tuned for life. The universal constants are precisely correct to one significant figure in two hundred apparently. This shakes the scientific materialists but there is one way out, we are just one of many universes. It is a kick in the teeth for Occam's Razor which admittedly is only a recommendation. However we have to make a decision as to whether this universe is just a brute fact and appeared out of nothing, that is literally nothing, or there is a necessary intelligence. Either way neither side is going to be able to prove anything, so just choose what you feel most comfortable with. By the way I am making good progress with 'The conscious universe' by Amit Goswami I'm right in the middle of reading a chapter about parallel universes by Michio Kaku and it just mentioned these points. I'll post again when I've had a chance to digest this information. How 'bout one god for each universe? I don't see any fine-tuning of the universe. Maybe our solar system just happens to be going through a 5 billion year phase in an evolution which happens to support life. |
