Finally, a good call. People just don't have common sense. This is a travesty. There is a sect called "Christian" which does not believe in doctors/medicine and it's called Christian Science founded by Mary Baker Eddy and based on a corrupted interpretation of Biblical passages. Adults have the right to refuse medical treatment for themselves. This is a gray area when it comes to children. Although I abhor the outcome, I must side with the parent's right to "prayer healing". There are many types of alternative medicine being practiced today. What if the government were to step in and mandate that only "traditional" medicine be applied? You got some good points kk. The government is already seriously encroaching on parental rights. This is extremely sad though. We had a similar situation in our extended family. Though many tried to advise her parents...even going to social services for some monitoring in their home...we lost our 10 yr. nice to cystic fibrosis many years before her time. Their daughter is gone and the guilt haunts her parents every day of their lives. @kkcapricorn "..I must side with the parent's right to "prayer healing".The presupposition here is that prayer can heal. There have been countless studies on this, and not a one (when done properly) account for any benefit to the patient whatsoever. In fact, patients tend to have a worse outcome, though slight. So prayer as a "treatment" for an illness is a misnomer. Prayer has not been demonstrated to heal, as this case confirms. There are many types of alternative medicine being practiced today. What if the government were to step in and mandate that only "traditional" medicine be applied?Prayer is not medicine. Anyone can pray all they want. It has nothin... The slope of government intervention is too slippery. jatfla The slope of government intervention is too slippery.Do you feel that same way with abortion? (If dead children is a measure of something wrong... how do you plead? Intervention, or no?) I'm not pro-abortion I'm not pro-abortionI know. That's not what I'm asking. You stated: "The slope of government intervention is too slippery." I'm asking: is "The slope of government intervention is too slippery" when it comes to abortion? You seem to be okay with the slippery slope of government intervention when it comes to murdering children via abortion (you want that government intervention), but not okay with the murder of children via prayer (you don't want that government intervention). [It just seems like the slippery slope of government intervention argument is disingenuous.] |
