You know, I always wondered if the conservatives really understood that he was mocking them. Bush doesn't normally invite critics to speak their mind, so I have this nagging feeling that when they invited Colbert to the Washington Correspondents Dinner, they hadn't realized that The Colbert Report was simply a persona. Bush looked very very surprised at the spectacularly barbed attack that followed, although I certainly wasn't.

I wonder if their fundamentalism hasn't made them extremely literal about more than just the Bible, rendering them incapable of understanding sarcasm?

Remember back in the late 70's or early 80's when Joe Walsh ran for president? I hope Colbert wins by a landslide, we can't do any worse
