TheCatWhisperer says: This is a tough one (for most of us). A: We MUST protect kids online. No sane person disagrees with that. B: We MUST have personal freedoms, that includes posting pictures/videos of you & your partner nude, etc. As long as the place you are posting is protected against kids accidentally accessing (ie: labeled properly with text & meta-data that let's filtering software know to block it) This law is meant to make it hard to post material containing images/video of individuals under the age of 18. Right now, I suppose a provider could claim thay weren't sure when a video may contain an individual that is actually 16-17. With the new law, this would be MUCH harder, if not impossible (without fake IDs, etc). Unfortunately, it would also make it very hard for the average poster to post their legal video as well. And it makes it hard and expensive for the hosting sites to collect, verify & maintain the data. I wonder, if this might be a slight bit of overkill? What do last line should read: "What do you think?" I think anybody affected by this will simply move their site to another country. While I agree with the overall goal of the law, doing things like this is a complete waste of time - it inconveniences people who want to do legal things, but makes no difference at all to those using things illegally, since there are very simple ways round it. Immorality is rampant in our society, I say go for it! Pass the law! Yes.. porn is immoral... it closed minded, prudishness like that, which makes people intolerant. If i want to share a picture/video/etc of my girlfriend and I naked (as long as she was ok with it) there's nothing immoral about it. Just because you are too sexually repressed to deal with it doesn't make it wrong. Get over yourself. Oh, and in other news, this law will not pass, as the law it was to be built on was struck down by another judge linkie to news story: Court Does Right by Social Sex Sites Yeah, it should be implemented.. Good comment, pigboom, thanks for adding to the converation How about adding why you think it should be implemented.. even though now its next to impossible for it to be implemented anyway... (thanks to that article i linked in my previous post). Go Cat Go! I say no. Thats what places like these have admins. The law should hold the sites administrators liable for allowing kiddie porn (man I just ate, the very thought of it makes me ill) and at least 10 years in the slammer. But considering what is already going on with the telecoms, we don't need more sniffers out there, we need better informed parents/children, better investigators and responsible business practices. |
