"But sometimes your mind gets in the way." That's absolutely right. First we pro gramme it one way; then when it starts responding the way we like, we discover that we had done it wrong and we want it reprogrammed. The poor thing (our poor little brain) gets confused. “All maximum performances are actually pseudo-maximum performances,” Dr. Morgan said. “You are always capable of doing more than you are doing.”Awesome clip. I'm going to save it for my daughter, who starts training for track this month. As a former distance runner, I know exactly what this article is talking about. At first it was the 5 minute mile barrier. Once that was broken, it was nothing to hit 4:40. The I struggled to hit 4:30. Once I broke that, 4:20 was the next hurdle. Then 4:10... Each time I thought it was going to kill me. Each time I survived it, and then it was nothing to do it again. I knew it was mental, but it was still a struggle to overcome. I call... By the way I used to visualize a running cheetah or Sebastian Coe Awesome laceym! I know exactly what you mean! I've had a minor electrical heart problem from birth and it wasn't bad enough to require medication. I would always have to be so careful with exercise. It got to be sort of a mental thingy, the fear of having an attack and I would only jog as far as I felt comfortable even though my cardiologist said it was ok. Then I started visualizing myself as jogging farther and farther without having an attack. Do I still have an occasional attack? Sometimes. And sometimes I have them without exercise. But here is the kicker. I got over that mental hurdle and convinced myself that the exercise was not the culprit. Don't try this at home without your doctor's advice kiddies, *LOL* Once went to school with a man that was a better basketball player than football; elected to play football, was a great player in college and pro. I remember when in track and field in high school before the flop on the high jump, he could touch the basketball rim with his foot. Mind over matter; plus good genetics. |
