norfolkman says: Calvin was one of the great reformers within the Christian church, coming out of Roman Catholicism he dicovered that salvation can only be gained by faith and not by works or rituals. He discovered it, or asserted it? If everyone is predestined, then those going to hell never had a chance which would make such a god inherently evil. Is this the idea of reformed theology? Ah, my friend, God never sends any person to hell, a person goes there because they chose to go there, they chose to reject God's call on their lives, God is not willing that any should perish. "God never sends any person to hell, a person goes there because they chose to go there..."If it's your choice, then how is it predestined? The claim of Calvinism is "That God, by His sovereign grace predestines people into salvation..." And what would be the purpose of hell if perfectly good people are found there? What is their punishment for if it's based on the whim of capricious grace and not good works? Perfectly good people in hell demonstrates a perfectly evil god. In this case there would certainly be no need for a devil. The problem is dear brother that there are no "good" people, Jesus said (recorded in Luke 18:19), "Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God". It is only as a result of the sacrifical death of the Lord Jesus Christ that we are made good in the eyes of God. When we accept God's call upon our lives through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, then God see us through the righteousness of Christ. There may well be, as you say, "perfectly good people" that will find themselves in hell. but that is because they consider themselves good by the values of the world, and not by the values of God. Because we are all tainted with Adam's sin, we were all destined to go to hell, but God ... "The problem is dear brother that there are no "good" people..."Let's suppose that this is true (its not, but lets suppose that it is) in order to get to the heart of it. Let's say you're approaching a crossroads, and god has already predestined you to take road A, instead of road B. Is there any way you can possibly take road B? If we are using the common definition of "predestine" you can ONLY take road A, otherwise you'd be proving god wrong, both in knowledge and in power. So you can ONLY take road A; agreed? Now, in light of the definition of the meaning "predestine" please describe to me where and how you EVER had a choice? And so if god predestines you to hell, ... It is only as a result of the sacrifical death of the Lord Jesus Christ that we are made good in the eyes of God.So does this change any of the predestination thing? If not, then his death is moot. It changes nothing. There may well be, as you say, "perfectly good people" that will find themselves in hell. but that is because they consider themselves good by the values of the world, and not by the values of God.Let's suppose that you had two children. And you decided "before they were born" that the second one will be tortured. And when she was born you kept her in the basement and tortured her every day starting from day one of her life -- because you "pre... |
