This post has been around longer than Lincoln, but I wonder how Fox News would have covered these items:

April 16, 1862
President Lincoln signs bill abolishing slavery in District of Columbia; in Congress, 99% of Republicans vote yes, 83% of Democrats vote no

October 29, 1864
African-American abolitionist Sojourner Truth says of President Lincoln: “I never was treated by anyone with more kindness and cordiality than were shown to me by that great and good man”

April 8, 1865
13th Amendment banning slavery passed by U.S. Senate with 100% Republican support, 63% Democrat opposition

April 19, 1866
Thousands assemble in Washington, DC to celebrate ...

History books will fill in the gaps for you. But maybe the historians were biased? Maybe they had been planning "Fox News" before opponents of Democrats’ pro-slavery policies met in Ripon, Wisconsin to establish the Republican Party?

Fer shure.

I also wonder why every time I show THIS to a Democrat, it sickens them. I guess I'll never figure that one out.

Rewriting history again, COT? There was no Democratic Party in 1862. Your lies show again.

Oh, and that picture doesn't sicken me. Bush was well known for staging photo ops, and then pulling all the support and aid out after he got his required publicity shots. You just gave me a reminder of what a scumbag Dubya was.

Darkeforce, COT is right, the Democratic party did exist in 1862, what he forgets is that the mayor parties basically switch sides since the Civil War. The Democrats kicked the Dixiecrats in the 50s which then Nixon embraced in 70s.

So if those headlines where written today they would say Republican instead of Democrat.

...or maybe, just maybe, the modern-day GOP really has fundamentally betrayed it's roots and the whole reason it was established. Thanks for showing us the objective evidence of that.
