Great clip! Great Bishop, have you read or listened to him? No, I've never heard of him, but the clip hits the nail on the head for me. I'll check out some of the archives. You've got to watch this video, it is extremely good, and even funny at times. you're right, there are some funny things in that video.... "the first example of daylight savings time" LOL! I wasn't sure what I was going to think of that video at first; but pleasantly surprised! Great clip and video! Did you watch the part at the very end? Something really funny is at the end. This guy is good. I have become a big fan of his. I don't try to imagine a personal God; it suffices to stand in awe at the structure of the world, insofar as it allows our inadequate senses to appreciate it. I am a deeply religious nonbeliever. This is somewhat new kind of religion. What I see in Nature is a magnificent structure that we can comprehend only very imperfectly, and that must fill a thinking person with a feeling of humility. This is a genuinely religious feeling that nothing to do with mysticism. Albert Einstein I just have to ask one question The source of god and Jesus is obviously flawed to require so much explanation, cherry picking, and apologetics. So why continue the charade? If the underlying foundation is put into question and needs so much special interpretation (which never matches what anyone else interprets) why not recognize religion for what it really is? Fake. Made up. A fiction perpetrated to control and conquer. I don't care how well the sales pitch is, the bottom line is that changing the description doesn't make god any more true or real. All I'm seeing here is people abandoning all the negative things in which religion gets busted for and continuing to ignore the real issue -... Great clip. Check out www.sofn.org.uk (sea of faith network). I do see a positive here. Maybe with enough religious evolution ALL of the supernatural ignorance and mumbo jumbo can be taken out and Jesus (or the conceptualized idea of him) can be simply celebrated as a wise/intelligent man, just as we do with Buddha, Einstein, Plato, Edison, or any other historical figures that provided advancement to humanity. Pop, I see a positive here as well. The video was great! Thanks for the link, Arif. I haven't watched the end yet. I'm about 1/3 of the way through. arifsali, your last comment - well said Seems very similar to the "Jefferson Bible." Thomas Jefferson when he was in the White House went into the oval office with a Bible and a pair of scissors. He cut out every miracle from the story of Jesus and what remained was a story of a man that taught love and compassion and was later killed for it. It's rare but you can find a copy if you look for it. Ironically, the author does not believe what even the Jews that persecuted and killed him did, that he performed many miracles, which is why they sought to remove him, under color of law, by force. Historical truth is determined by eye-witness accounts. That Jesus enemies acknowledge his miracles is fully documented, and can only be refuted, as in a court of law, by other historical witnesses. Therefore, the author has sought to produce a book of fiction, upon his own bias presumptions, and for his own glory, while tickling the ears of many gullible to believe him, just because he himself says so! It is irrational to believe this author's "beliefs" or conclusions, without cross examinati... "That Jesus enemies acknowledge his miracles is fully documented, and"Fully documented," where? And don't use the bible, as the men that wrote the accounts there were either not eye-witnesses or stood to gain by the Jesus myth. Don't use Josephus either, as his work was later falsified and this falsification has been proven. So, please give me an independent witness/source about these miracles. Bishop Spong also wrote "the Sins of Scripture". I first borrowed it from the library and I liked it so much I bought a hard cover copy of my own. In a nutshell it's about how people twist the Bible to suit theit own personal needs. Why that's crazy talk! Twist the bible?! Bishop Spong also wrote "the Sins of Scripture". I first borrowed itCertainly in the fractured denominational church this does indeed happen. Though usually not to the point of disavowing the essentials. In my view there really isn't anyhting wrong with that. The problem is that is what Spong does exactly what you suggest Spong is critical of to a much more irrational degree. It least that is how it seems to me not being a Spong scholar rather a curious bystander and observer. He seems to toss out highly scrutinize... The problem is that is what Spong does exactly what you suggest Spong is critical of to a much more irrational degree.Restate: The problem is that Spong does exactly what you suggest Spong is critical of and to a much more irrational degree. Isn't this something that anyone creating a splinter religion does? Todays Christians are just yesterdays Jews. |
