egsnyder says: Sadness has been rebranded into "Depressive Disorder" by the psychiatric establishment. Good for business? This book made the tabloids! Why is everything becoming a disease or a disorder. People get sad, Some get sadder than others. Some people get sadder more often then others. It does not mean the person has a depressive disorder or an other kind of disorder. The only type of person this re-labeling would benefit would be a hypochondriac. If it's a permanent disorder, then it's a lifetime subscription to some drug or other. Great for the pharmaceutical industry. What a disgrace! Current version is DSM-IV, can your quote were it says that sadness is major depression? The best treatment for true major depression is ECT, nothing currently available chemically comes close in efficacy. |
