Perhaps this was God's way of telling her to obey the Law.

"Gunther said she was performing the ceremony to give thanks for a recent run of good luck."

That's priceless.

Your faith is as phony as hers. Yours is just responsible for the murder and genocide of thousands. Her's is a hodgepodge of superstition and childish BS.

Which one do you think needs to obey the law?

It's of note that the woman and her friends weren't charged with any crimes, though they were warned against trespassing. The cops in that town treated a minor incident as what it was, a minor incident. This says something about how much more accepted Wicca has become compared with a few decades ago. At one time this incident would have made major news, but now it's just a silly-season story of individual stupidity.

Because you know I had to ask.... can you clarify that statement?

stabbed herself in the foot with a 3-foot-long sword while performing a Wiccan good luck ritual
It is very good luck that she only stabbed her foot, I guess.

Yeah, I guess 'luck' is all perception.

Not a problem.

I've read extensively into Mythology (Ancient Myth and Theology are the same thing damn it! Another rant, another time). The modern "Wicca" and the whole host of "New Age" religions are based of of older forms (my personal favorite would be the Odinists, or what ever they are calling themselves now).

Wicca is quite literally a hodgepodge of the older forms, ranging from the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Germanic tribes, Nordic tribes, Celtic (germanic, french, welsh, scott, and irish), hindu mystysism, and shaminism...

It looks like her run of good luck came to an end. The worst disaster I ever personally saw in a ritual was spilled wax.

I once almost stabbed my husband through the hand during an overzealous presentation of symbolically killing the God at a Sabbat.

Rioting Drone, thank you for the overview. Unfortunately, it seems that you're equating a legitimate Mystery religion with the commercialized teen witchcrap that is so prevalent today. Wicca has a specific structure and tenets, whereas what you describe is the "Wicca is what I want it to be" crowd.

Back in `96 I tried talking members of my group into going to see ``The Craft``. The response ranged from indifference to ``Why would you want to see that crap``. My response was that some people might come to us expecting Paganism to be like Hollywood, and if we didn`t know what those images were, we couldn`t respond to them (the movie was entertaining in a trite way but nothing more). The same goes for ``Charmed`` and the rest - in fact, I like Holly Marie Coombs, but can barely bring myself to sit through a single episode.

P.S.: Most Pagans, Wiccan or otherwise, generally choose one pantheon and stick to it. Vampires are more an offshoot of medieval Christian folklore than anything el...
