I could swear I read somewhere that they allowed the Wiccan symbol on his plaque. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sgt._Patrick_Stewart Quote: "State officials said they would authorize the use of the plaque with the Wiccan symbol. It was installed over the weekend of November 18-19, 2006." A plaque was installed on the Nevada state veterans' memorial. The Wiccan symbol is still being denied on his headstone by the VA. My mistake then. I apologize. I personally feel if they allow a Cristian symbol, a Jewish symbol, or any other religious symbol THEY feel is appropriate, then, in my opinion, a Wiccan symbol should be allowed as well. *grin* No apology needed; it does sound confusing at first. It's been 10 years since the first request; at least 8 other symbols have been approved during that time. Since Wicca is federally recognized and has authorized services on military bases around the world, you would think this would be a non-issue. But, the VA is under civilian, not military, procedures, and therefore someone is holding things up. It's really ridiculous. |
