También pueden presentarse complicaciones mecánicas como la ruptura de pared libre, regurgitación mitral isquémica y la ruptura del septum ventricular. Esta última es un evento poco común, con una incidencia en la era pre-trombolítica de alrededor de 1 a 2 % de todos los infartos agudos del miocardio (IAM), (<A href="#1"> 1</A> ,<A href="#2">2</A> ,<A href="#3">3</A> ) y tasas de mortalidad intra-hospitalaria que variaban entre un 45% en pacientes sometidos a correción quirúrgica y 90% en pacientes con manejo médico exclusivo.
