I used to think that I couldn't homeschool. Now, I have graduated one child and continuing to homeschool two more.

Homeschooling is NOT for everyone but it is a viable option for EVERYONE to choose.

It not only takes a lot of time and energy, it takes courage. Courage to stand up to naysayers, courage to give up some luxuries in life, courage to donate to a lot of time and effort to be around your kids than the average parent who sends their kids to public schools. Courage to learn/re-learn things you never thought you would ever have to remember. Courage to have faith in yourself and your community.

It's a lot of work, but for me it's been worth every ounce of courage I could muster.

Home schooling is very hard, it takes allot of hard work unlike what the majority of public think. Plus the public system is so flawed and failed many kids... Its hard to cheat to...

Congrats on that, Dezzi. I'm still pondering homeschooling my daughter. She's 3, so I have a year to figure it out. I'm really interested though. The biggest objection I've heard from people is that homeschooling somehow retards social development.

I have 3 sweet homeschooled cousins that participate in sports, etc. The only answer I have is: you get what you put into it.

You know, it seems that non-homeschoolers and particularly, "anti-homeschoolers" are more afraid of the (supposed) lack of socialization of kids taught at home than actual home-school parents.

It's not like we suddenly move to caves and become hermits.

I have been doing this for 8 years. I have NEVER met a shy or unsociable homeschool kid. And, my kids are far from wallflowers or friendless. My kids are socialized with the ki...

I've heard some of the most ridiculous arguments against homeschooling. In one discussion a parent described how his son had be physically threatened on a bus with a knife by another student and claimed that was a life lesson that his child would benifit from!

We felt our kids were a bit advanced for kindergarden so wanted to have them tested to begin at first grade. Our local school system strung us on with "we cannot test children younger than 5". Immediatly after her 5th birthday we called the school to set up an appointment and they laughed at us and turned us down claiming they would not support or sanction a family attempting to rob the community of important tax money for the schools...

Dezzi and Oortcloud are making some good sense. I appreciate your input.

the newspapers are littered with reasons why I shouldn't send my kids to public school.
So true!

Dezzi...I agree with your remarks. We finished homeschooling this year. It was a wonderful experience. Including the ups and downs.

As far as socialization goes, my daughter has not been lacking at all. She learned more about socializing thru homeschooling. We got a huge dose of how bad socialization is in the public schools!

Our only major problem while homeschooling were the neighbors. They were jealous and took it out on us.

Courage? You bet. It was scary never knowing if you were doing the right thing. Validation came when I realized she was learning. Sure glad we did it!

Oortcloud-
Funny how we can disagree so strongly on some subjects and be almost totally united on this one! Great Clip! Homeschool is the most rewarding and most difficult thing I have ever done, and every time I think I might quit, I am reminded of how wonderful it is to be with my kids every day! Thanks for posting this one.
Public school failed my kids bigtime.
