I clipped this too. Question: Why did they pay this huge sum while the terms including maintaining they did nothing wrong? Only to prevent a trial which will draw attention to the details of the unsolved case which had a dramatic effect on Congress (namely Daschle and Leahy) and the nation toward fear after 9/11. He very well could be guilty of providing to someone, but they do not want attention on the case or its details. The anthrax clearly came from within Ft Meade and government sources.

Are you trying to intimate something about the government being officially involved in the mailing of anthrax laced letters?

I'm certainly not. But this government has this habit of recklessly plunging into situations without thinking through the consequences. Reminds me of the shooting down of the Iranian commercial airliner years ago: eventually the US paid damages, but never admitted any wrongdoing.
