Isn't he speaking entirely for our benefit? This was written for our benefit so that the person who plows or threshes should expect to receive a share of the crop.

I believe God taught the a worker is worthy of his hire and the person who plows should expect a return on that labor. Read the rest of the article here:

God strongly condemned covetousness for it is forbidden in the 10 commandments which reads:

“Never desire to take your neighbor's wife away from him. “Never long for your neighbor's household, his field, his male or female slave, his ox, his donkey, or anything else that belongs to him.”
Deuteronomy 5:21

I believe those who wish to take from those who work for, possess, earned, toiled, gathered, are guilty of covetousness.

I think God supports or constitution that protects the right to possess private property. What someone works for and creates is private property that should be protected not coveted. IMO
