If this is really possible then why haven't they tried it. They're willing to do everything else to the troops. They might like even a little ray of hope in their life when they come back different from when they left.

They are trying it. The video shows a man whose finger was sliced off and they used this process to get it to the point of complete recovery. So, they're definitely trying it, especially for the troops.
