My grandmother was born in Knock, County Mayo, "dear old Ireland," in September 1873. She was nearly six years old when she witnessed The Apparition at Knock (Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, St. John the Evangelist) which took place on 21st August, 1879. This event defined her life.

Every Sunday, after Mass, the whole family would gather in Nana's kitchen (every other room in the house was off-limits) to sing and dance, while my uncles played the accordion and violin, and my grandfather would play the "Spoons."

Nana taught me virtually every traditional Irish song which I would sing to her for hours on end.

The Blessed Mother has been a strong presence in my life, as well.

Great clip! I have a like/dislike relationship with trad. The dislike comes when people are way too serious and ruin the spirit of the music. Get them out of the way and there's potential for the craic: music+laughter = fun times, (adding Guinness is good, but not required). My partner, who plays guitar, bodhran and Irish flute, taught me how to play a few tunes. I love to sing She Moved Through the Fair.

You're welcome muriel. I lover Anne's voice. A real music lover posted that video. I chose it over the Sinead O'Connor version because I figured that anyone whose seen Michael Collins has heard it. Don't get wrong, Sinead is fantastic (Black Boys On Mopeds, - one of my all time faves), but Anne is in a class all her own.

p.s. I keyboarded this without my glasses on, so that's why all the typos, if there are any.
