Now you are getting down right technical. Both of his parents are American, so that makes him an American. He can become president.

What about this:

Congress first recognized the citizenship of children born to U.S. parents overseas on March 26, 1790, under the first naturalization law: "And the children of citizens of the United States that may be born beyond sea, or outside the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural born citizens."

The 1790 law remained in effect until the Naturalization Act of 1795
superseded it. The 1795 law stated that the children of citizens of the
United States who are born outside the limits of the country "shall be
considered as citizens of the United States
Does the Naturalization Act of 1795 change "natural born" status?

Truth is, no one should have been there but the Vietnamese, but that is another piece of history, like Macca.

Would this help or hinder him on immigration issues? Won't he open the borders now to non-Americans or the doubtful ones? Now that he's lost his hero gloss after proving to be a collaborator, will this not ensure the neoCons full support. They're used to backing illegitimate causes. Look at the Middle East!!! Iraq, even.

Well, not that it will really matter, but:
A series of early-20th-century decisions known as the Insular Cases... ruled that unincorporated territories acquired by the United States were not part of the nation for constitutional purposes.... the zone was generally considered an unincorporated territory before it was returned to Panama in 1999, and some people born in the Canal Zone when it was under American jurisdiction have been deported from the United States or convicted of being here illegally.

The second way Mr. McCain could have, and ultimately did, become a citizen was by statute...

At the time of Mr. McCain’s birth, the relevant law granted citiz...
